This past Sunday, Michigan graced us with a perfect day: 70 degrees, sunshine and a day schedule of rugby! This year Michigan put out two teams: Maize and Blue, to compete against Michigan State, Ferris State, Grand Valley and the Traverse City Blues. Michigan dominated the three rounds of pool play with Maize winning all three games and Blue winning two out of three. The girls worked hard with great breakout runs from Alena Olsen, Meg Melton, Fatou Ndaw, Gaia Cicerchia, Emily Carlson and Jeethi Nair (whose run not only secured the Blue team's second place finish but it was also her first ever try!!)
With the regular season winding down, the girls will mainly be training during the month of May in preparation for the Collegiate Rugby Championships June 4th and 5th in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. They will be playing in one tournament before then at Penn State University on May 14th. If you are on the East Coast we would love to see you there!
