February Alumna Feature
This month's featured alumna of the month is Kadie Sanford! Since graduating eight years ago, Kadie has continued playing rugby with several other club teams. Let's hear what she has to say about the experience!
Years of Rugby Experience
Prop, Lock, 8, Flank
What have you been up to since graduation?
I stayed in Ann Arbor for two years after graduating with a small company and played rugby for Detroit WRFC. I then moved to Chicago for a new job -- I've been there ever since -- and started playing for Chicago North Shore WRFC.
Are there any lessons, skills, or memories from your time on the team that have been helpful to you since then?
"Be a work horse, not a show pony." Herb and Fred always pushed us to work hard, but I never really appreciated the amount of work we put in until I left Michigan. Putting in the work off the pitch makes the game faster and way more fun.
What is your favorite Michigan rugby experience?
The Fall season of my junior year was one of my favorite times while playing for Michigan. The Fall prior, we had won only one game, but my junior year we finished the regular season undefeated and won Midwest. Endless scrum sessions, numerous hennies, and countless down-ups paid off in a strong, united and extremely fun team.
Do you have any advice for current ruggers?
Push yourself and your teammates. Use every practice, gym session, and game to push yourself to be better than you were before. Hold yourself and your teammates accountable and never settle!
Is there anything else you would like to share?
Play rugby as long as you can! No matter where you go, if there is a rugby team, you have a family.
