SISU November Player of the Month: Lea Boreland

This player of the month is known for her athleticism on the field and her intellectualism off the field. Lea's unparalleled speed and intensity makes her a hard player to stop on offense, and nearly impossible to evade on defense.

Lea Boreland

Novi, MI

Major, Minor:

Politic Science, Complex Systems

How long have you been playing?

1 year

Why rugby?

I played a year of college hockey before coming to Michigan and then took my sophomore year off from sports. I was so excited to play a game again. It's fun to remember how to be powerful. Everybody on this team inspires me.

In 5 years, what do you see yourself doing?

Almost anything!

Favorite place in Ann Arbor?

Driving past the entrance to the Arb on Geddes in the winter when you can see north campus lit up in the background. It's a real supply and demand thing. There's only one or two seconds where it's visible from the road.

Favorite memory at Michigan so far?

I really liked moving into my first apartment. I remember running around Ikea completely broke and miserable, and we somehow bought nothing but a bunch of wooden drawing mannequins. But we were so excited about it. We thought a lot about where to place them. Eventually we got other things too, like plates and wifi. Things came together over time!

Who is your biggest inspiration and why?

Probably my parents! My mom is very goofy and smart. My dad makes incredible fried eggs and never gets tired of arguing with me.

If you were an ice cream flavor, what would you be?

Cherry Garcia, which is slightly upsetting but true

Favorite quote?

"Sometimes, things that are expensive, are worse"

Hidden talent?

Saying talent with an incredibly strong midwestern accent

Favorite condiment?
