SISU March Player of the Month: Emma "Miguel" Gell

This month, we’re honoring one of our seniors, Emma “Miguel” Gell. Emma brings both humor and drive to the pitch for every practice, scrimmage, and match. Since she joined, Emma has become a key member of the forward pack. Get to know Miguel a little better here!

Year: Senior

Hometown: Farmington Hills, Michigan

Major: Nursing

How long have you been playing?

2 years

Why rugby?

Well... I used to be on the water polo team. I started water polo my freshman year, continued my sophomore year, and had every intention of playing my junior and senior year. But before practices started, in early September of my junior year, my friend Emma Jabour (who had been trying to get me to play rugby for a while now) convinced me to come to a practice just to check it out and get in shape before water polo practices started. Lo and behold, I absolutely loved it. I tried to do both sports for the fall semester before breaking things off with water polo and committing to rugby full time. My only regret is not joining the team sooner. Rugby is a sport of power, intelligence, adaptability, support, and teamwork. The women's rugby team is a family. Both on and off the pitch, these women never cease to amaze me and I am honored to be a part of this team.

In 5 years, what do you see yourself doing?

I have no clue what I'll be doing 5 years from now... I'd ideally like to retire to my beach home and then travel the world in all my spare time. Seeing as that is not likely, I'd like to be working as a travel nurse or as a disaster relief nurse helping in emergencies or refugee camps.
